Safer at Home, Together

Our service model has changed, but our commitment to building homes, community, and hope has not.

During the Shawnee County Safer at Home order, we made 90 home deliveries to our most vulnerable homeowners and those we serve. We made hundreds of weekly phone calls to our homeowners and volunteers to help them stay connected and engaged. We continue to adjust our service model to keep everyone safe, while still serving the community. The safety and well-being of our clients, volunteers, staff, donors and community is our top priority.

ReStore

Our ReStore re-opened on May 7th with limited hours after being closed for seven weeks. Our ReStore hours are currently Thursday-Saturday from 10 am-4 pm. These limited hours allow our staff and volunteers the appropriate time to maintain a sanitary and safe environment.

While shopping at the ReStore, you will find complimentary masks, hand sanitizing stations, social distance markers with 6 foot spacing, and cart sanitation.

In addition, we are offering contactless donation drop-offs on the east side of our building. Please ring the bell for assistance.

The revenue generated by the ReStore is vitally important to our programming and we appreciate your support and understanding.

Construction

We continue to build homes for families in our partnership housing program.  Our staff remains committed to building homes safely for our current partner families. We are following all OSHAA, CDC, State and local guidelines. We are currently building with our "core" construction volunteers and subcontractors. We have implemented a hand washing station on our build site, masks and social distancing guidelines. In June of 2020, we hope to allow new individual volunteers and small groups of 6 or less to join us on the build sites.

Repair Programs

On June 1st we will begin accepting repair applications again. Priority will be given to those applicants already waiting for services. Reapplications will be assessed based on funding availability and safety for both the applicant and our staff.

Community Involvement

Topeka Habitat is committed to the safety and well-being of our entire community. We continue to participate in COVID-19 response efforts organized by the United Way of Greater Topeka. We have donated PPE to first responders in our area. We strive to rise to the occasion while tightening our belts as an organization. If you see a need in our community or a collaborative effort that Topeka Habitat could assist with, please reach out.

To stay up to-date on the status of Topeka Habitat and the ReStore, please sign-up for our newsletter and follow Topeka Habitat for Humanity on Facebook. We are committed to serving our Topeka Habitat Family during this time. If you are a Habitat homeowner, volunteer, client or community partner that needs assistance, please reach out to our Leadership team via email or phone.

We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this time and know that we are committed to serving our community.
