Can You Help?

The concept is simple. Habitat for Humanity helps build affordable homes for lower income families in our community. It's not a "something for nothing" program. Habitat families are good people, who purchase their homes through a no-interest real estate mortgage, make monthly payments, have put sweat equity into building the homes, and take care of them while living there.

Neighbor helping neighbor in it's purest form...building homes and rebuilding entire neighborhoods.

Over the past twenty plus years, Topeka Habitat for Humanity has built over sixty homes in Topeka, with the help of people just like you.

We're building several right now, and we need to build many more. But we need YOUR help.

Help with labor. Help with money. Help with materials. Help with land. Help anyway you can.

Cash Donations

The average cost of a three bedroom Habitat for Humanity home in Topeka is now about $70,000. Monetary donations are our lifeblood. Part of each dollar given gets used over and over again as we build each new home. Stocks and other securities, or a long term pledge are another way to keep the partnership going. All such donations offer you tax savings.

Planned Giving

If you feel strongly about making a bigger impact on the Topeka community, now and in the future, it is possible for you to act through a trust or a will. As long as there are people in need, Topeka Habitat for Humanity will continue its mission to provide decent, affordable housing. Your contribution in the form of a planned gift can help us well into the future.

Dear Volunteer:

Dear Volunteer: Habitat for Humanity International lives with the goal of eliminating substandard housing in our world. Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Topeka Habitat has renovated or built over 60 houses since we began in 1984. Are there fewer sub-standard homes in our city today? I don't know. I can guarantee there are still families living in poor housing. We can do something about that!

How can you help? You can join the Topeka affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in building new homes for deserving families in our community. Our work events typically take place on Saturdays or Sundays. You can take part in a single event or sign up for as many as you wish. There are no special skills required.

Topeka Habitat provides a very easy to use web site for its volunteers. Click on the "Volunteer Now" button on this page and set up your profile. Every work event will be posted on this site with the number of volunteers needed. Simply sign back into the volunteer website to select which events you would like to work. An email confirmation will be sent as well as a reminder prior to the event.

Volunteers can participate in all phases of building a home, framing, exterior sheeting, interior finishing, painting, landscaping, etc. You will experience the joy of working side by side with the new home-owner family in building their new home. It is a unique satisfaction to take part in creating something that will have a lasting effect on this family and their future generations.

If you would like to volunteer in other ways to help Habitat, please complete the "General Volunteer Form" and send to the address provided on the form.

Please volunteer today to become part of the Habitat for Humanity mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for deserving families in our community.

Thank you,
Jerry Billinger
